Romain Febvre ready for the opening GP

After two solid pre-season races Romain Febvre and the Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP are ready for the opening round of the FIM MXGP World Motocross Championship in Argentina this weekend.
It has been a busy winter for the Frenchman who underwent surgery straight after the final GP of 2022 to remove a pin in his leg. “The surgeon also took this opportunity to clean the knee so I had to wait until the end of November to get back training physically and later on the bike. For the first time in a while I can run and undertake physical training without pain, and that was great to have a strong winter to prepare the season,” explained Romain, who also decided to have further minor surgery on his forearms in January. “Two years ago I experienced pain in my arms and underwent surgery then last year, when I was back after six months, the pain returned. That’s pretty usual after you don’t ride for a long time, but after intensive training and testing this winter I felt the pain again so I didn’t want to take any risks and had surgery in January. I had to stop riding for a few weeks which is why I didn’t race the Italian International series.”
For the ninth time in his career, Romain will line up in the MXGP class where he won the world title in 2015. He narrowly missed a second title in 2021, his second year with Kawasaki, when the series went to the final moto of the season, and of course it’s his main goal this year to clinch gold again. “It’s impossible to explain what a great feeling it is when you are world champion. Already as a child I was dreaming to get a title at least one time; it was a dream initially but when I finally got it I wanted more. When you take part in any sport, whatever it is, you want to be the best but it’s not easy. Then when you miss it by just a couple of points like in 2021 you look back on the season and you see where you could have got those few more points. And that’s not easy to accept,” he said in analysis. With all his experience he knows how important the mental approach is. “The mental side is a big part of the puzzle! Even if you work hard and are ready for the challenge you know before the start of each race that it’s a tough affair. To be strong mentally can help you to handle the pressure, and that’s something that you must have in you. Either you have it or you don’t; you can’t invent it.”
The pre-season races were pretty good for Romain, who achieved several podium results, but now it’s time to line up for the first GPs against even stronger opposition. “I’m nearly at 100% now, and the season will be really long. I love that track in Argentina, and the goal will be to score as many points as possible at each round. I know that in 2021 I was missing some speed compared to Herlings at times, and that’s a point we have worked on with Kevin Strijbos. If I regularly take good starts, like in the first moto at Hawkstone, I know what we are capable of this season. Let's go!”

Yamaha’s bLU cRU Program Wins 2022 FIM Award for the Future
Yamaha Motor Europe’s bLU cRU program was recognised for its contribution to encouraging youngsters into the world of motorcycling during the recent Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) Awards Ceremony in Rimini, Italy, where the program won the prestigious Award for the Future.
The FIM Award for the Future is aimed at rewarding those who have contributed to improving and developing the presence of youngsters in all motorcycling related activities through opportunities at national or international level, promoting role models and developing mentoring programmes, creating new competitions and classes or innovations dedicated specifically to youngsters.
The bLU cRU program was shortlisted for the award alongside several other initiatives, which have all contributed to providing opportunities to youngsters both nationally and internationally.
The FIM recognised Yamaha Motor Europe for their contribution in 2022, a year in which more than 400 young riders were part of the bLU cRU program across both road and off-road disciplines, all benefiting from coaching, technical support, and an opportunity to further their racing careers.
Set-up in 2016, the bLU cRU program was created to provide young riders an opportunity to take the next step in their racing careers with support from Yamaha. Starting with the YZ bLU cRU Cup, in 2017 riders could enter three classes around various national championships in Europe: YZ65, YZ85 and YZ125. The top 120 performers would then be selected to take part in the YZ SuperFinale, where they would battle for a spot in the prestigious Masterclass. There, riders would be judged on their performances, with the winners of each class earning support for the following season.
In 2019, Yamaha expanded into road racing, supporting riders within the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship class. Those that impressed would earn promotion to the FIM Supersport World Championship with support from Yamaha. In 2021, Yamaha Motor Europe then introduced the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup, which supports rounds of the FIM Superbike World Championship. The overall winner then receives full support for their WorldSSP300 campaign the following season, kickstarting their journey to the pinnacle of motorcycle road racing.
Yamaha Motor Europe would like to thank the FIM for this award, as well as all the other nominees for their fantastic work in creating opportunities for young and aspiring riders.
Eric de Seynes, President and CEO, Yamaha Motor Europe:
“Firstly, I would like to thank Mr. Jorge Viegas and the FIM for recognising our bLU cRU program with the prestigious Award for the Future. To accept the trophy on behalf of Yamaha Motor Europe at the FIM Awards, an event that honours the elite of motorcycle sport, was a proud moment. Yamaha races across many disciplines and many classes, and we obviously race to win, but that isn’t our only goal.
As a manufacturer we also have a responsibility to safeguard the future of our sport by making it accessible to the next generation of racers and to ensure, by supporting the riders and their families, that real talent can be identified and nurtured. This is the philosophy of the bLU cRU, and it is this approach that has allowed World Champions like Maxime Renaux and Alvaro Diaz to realise their full potential within the Yamaha Racing family.
However, the bLU cRU isn’t limited to youngsters with World Championship aspirations, it’s also aimed at those that race purely for fun. Events like the YZ bLU cRU SuperFinale see our youngsters racing alongside their heroes, making memories that will last them a lifetime. I am immensely proud of our bLU cRU program, and I would encourage other manufacturers to consider something similar in the future. We can compete on track, but when it comes to securing the future of the sport, we need to work together.”
Young riders can now sign up for the 2023 bLU cRU Program on the links below.

New TRACER 9 GT+ Sport Touring model from Yamaha
New TRACER 9 GT+ Sport Touring model from Yamaha
Ride at the cutting edge
Yamaha Sport Touring models give riders across the globe the chance to live their dreams and explore the roads of life whenever they feel the need to escape from the everyday realities. Whether it’s a weekend break or an ambitious long distance tour, the TRACER 9 range has the performance, comfort and versatility to satisfy every rider’s lust for travel.
The very special formula of a high-torque 890cc CP3 engine, lightweight aluminium chassis, natural ergonomics and a luggage-ready design makes sure that these bikes are ready to get up and go whenever required.
Now Yamaha are ready to take the TRACER concept into an exciting new dimension with the most sophisticated Sport Tourer ever manufactured by the company. Building on the strengths of the existing models, the new TRACER 9 GT+ comes with a range of best-in-class technology that is designed to transform every ride by providing a previously unimaginable degree of versatility and control.
Featuring fully integrated cutting edge electronics including a millimetre wave radar, Adaptive Cruise Control, radar-linked Unified Brake System, electronic suspension and intelligent riding modes – as well as connected TFT instruments and fully integrated for Garmin navigation – the new TRACER 9 GT+ is ready to introduce a new era of control that will take the Sport Touring experience to the next level.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
TRACER 9 GT+ is the first Yamaha to be equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and this advanced new system offers all the advantages of cruise control together with the ability to automatically maintain a fixed distance from the vehicle ahead.
With a conventional cruise control system if the rider is getting closer to a vehicle in front, they need to deselect the system or apply their brakes – which automatically disengages the system. However, with the new ACC system an inbuilt millimetre wave radar constantly measures the distance from the vehicle immediately ahead of the TRACER 9 GT+. The ACC automatically controls cruising speed, deceleration and acceleration to suit the road situation as it evolves.
The ACC is adjustable, and when the machine is in motion its rider can select one of four different following distance options to suit their individual preferences, displayed as one bar for shortest following distance, and four bars for the longest following distance. ACC offers a number of advantages, including reducing rider fatigue by requiring fewer rider inputs, as well as ensuring improved ride quality by maintaining a constant following distance, and also promoting smooth traffic flow.
When the ACC system is active the new 7-inch TFT meter displays a green icon (with grey for standby) and shows between 1 and 4 white bars beneath a car icon to confirm the selected following distance. When the ACC determines that the rider is too close to the vehicle in front or if it senses that the machine’s current acceleration/deceleration status will soon lead to the rider getting too close, rider intervention request icon appears on the meter to notify the rider that appropriate action is required to avoid following too close.
ACC operates between 30 km/h and 160 km/h – in 1st & 2nd gears from 30 km/h, in 3rd & 4th gears from 40 km/h, and in 5th & 6th gears from 50 km/h. Speed can be increased and decreased in either 1 km/h or 10 km/h increments by pushing once or holding down the adjustment switch. ACC is deactivated by braking or gripping the clutch lever for more than 1 second, or rolling forward the throttle twist grip, beyond the throttle stop.
This easy to understand ACC status is shown in all screen modes including navigation mode and provides an additional rider aid that is designed to enhance the riding experience, particularly on busy highways.
Additional ACC functions
As well as maintaining a pre-selected following distance, ACC also features ‘cornering assist’ whereby it inhibits speed increases when the system detects that the machine is cornering, and if the radar detects a vehicle ahead it will also limit the level of acceleration when following.
The ACC’s ‘passing assist’ accelerates the TRACER 9 GT+ more smoothly than normal when it senses that the bike’s flasher is turned on and the motorcycle is performing an overtaking manoeuvre.
ACC is also integrated with the engine, and electronic suspension, and in order to maintain the pre-selected distance to the vehicle ahead, the engine braking and brakes are activated – in that order – to slow the bike. At the same time the electronic suspension’s damping force is adjusted to reduce excess pitching when brakes are applied to maintain chassis stability.
With its ability to intervene automatically and adjust levels of speed, throttle opening, engine braking, braking and suspension when following a vehicle – as well as when cornering and overtaking – the sophisticated ACC provides a natural and seamless riding experience. Used for the very first time on a Yamaha, this best-in-class electronic technology takes highway comfort to a whole new level.
The easy to operate ACC reduces the rider’s mental and physical inputs and gives enhanced comfort and convenience for an unrivalled ride quality, making the TRACER 9 GT+ Yamaha’s ultimate Sport Tourer.
Radar-linked front/rear assisted Unified Brake System
As the flagship model in Yamaha’s Sport Touring line, the TRACER 9 GT+ has been chosen to debut a range of innovative new best-in-class technology – including the motorcycling world’s first ever radar-linked Unified Brake System (UBS).
The new system is an active design that offers increased controllability by using data from the millimetre wave radar and the 6-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) to assist and regulate front and rear braking forces, via the Bosch hydraulic unit that optimises control and bias of the braking system.
There are three main elements to the radar-linked Unified Brake System that operate only when the BC (Brake Control) is turned ON. Firstly, brake assist intervenes when the system detects that a collision is imminent. Secondly, front/rear brake assistance adjusts braking forces to both wheels for stable deceleration. And thirdly, cornering brake control automatically adjusts braking force to inhibit tyre slippage when the machine is leaned over.
The radar-linked, Unified Brake System constantly analyses following distance data from the millimetre wave radar. If the system calculates that the rider’s braking inputs are insufficient to prevent a collision with the vehicle ahead it will increase brake pressure to the front and rear wheels to help slow the TRACER 9 GT+.
The previously described ACC system will also automatically slow the TRACER 9 GT+ when a pre-selected following distance is reached, but as soon as the rider applies the brakes the ACC is deactivated – and at this point the radar-linked Unified Brake System will intervene if it determines that the rider’s braking inputs are not sufficient to prevent a collision.
The system provides additional braking assistance and will only intervene when the BC is turned ON and the rider is braking – it is not a collision avoidance system.
The second element is the front/rear assisted Unified Brake System that adjusts front/rear braking force distribution. When only the front brake is used by the rider the hydraulic unit automatically applies braking force to the rear wheel, with the degree of intervention calculated using IMU data related to changes in acceleration and lean angle. When the only the rear brake is used the system will sometimes – but not always – apply additional braking force to the front wheel via the hydraulic unit depending on the brake pedal input and IMU data regarding the bike’s attitude.
The third element is the cornering brake control. This is in effect a ‘cornering brake control’ system that takes into account machine running data from the IMU and instantly adjusts the rider’s braking forces to inhibit tyre slippage.
The radar-linked Unified Brake System is linked to the electronic suspension, and as well as assisting and regulating front and rear braking forces it also adjusts front and rear suspension damping to maintain chassis stability. ABS always operates whether the BC is turned ON or OFF.
Millimetre wave radar
Both the new Adaptive Cruise Control and the radar-linked Unified Brake System use data from the new millimetre wave radar that detects the distance of the vehicle immediately ahead of the motorcycle. Weighing only 200g, this compact, integrated radar unit is situated behind a new protective cover at the front of the TRACER 9 GT+.
New 7-inch full colour TFT meter
TRACER 9 GT+ riders have a choice of three different screen themes with the new full-colour TFT high luminosity meter. Each screen theme is designed to convey a different feeling to suit different riding styles and varying personal preferences. With options giving a clean, contemporary look, a stripped down sports style with or a visual identity inspired by Yamaha’s Jin-Ki Kanno development ideal, there is a visual theme to suit each rider.
In all three meter themes the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is featured prominently, enabling riders to instantly see the system’s distance setting and selected cruising speed.
New smartphone connectivity
For an enriched riding experience smartphone connectivity comes as standard on the TRACER 9 GT+. A Communication Control Unit enables riders to link their smartphone with the machine using Yamaha’s free MyRide app. The connection can be made via USB*, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth®, and once connected the rider can view information on incoming calls, emails and messages on the TFT instruments. Riders and passengers can also listen to music and respond to calls with a Bluetooth®-connected headset*, adding a new dimension to every ride, whether long distance touring or commuting to work.
TRACER 9 GT+ riders can also view a range of menus and functions using the new ergonomic controls on the left handlebar, and when the bike isn’t moving its new high luminosity 7-inch TFT screen is able to display everything from weather reports to detailed notifications.
*Not included with the TRACER 9 GT+.
New Garmin full-screen navigation capability
Garmin full-screen navigation can be easily installed, all the rider needs to do is connect their smartphone via the free MyRide app and download the Garmin Motorise app**. A full-screen navigation window can be opened on the connected TFT instruments, and the TRACER 9 GT+ rider can select from a choice of different types of routes – such as fastest, shortest, highway and more – and spoken turn-by-turn directions can be sent to a paired Bluetooth®-connected headset*. Map data is downloaded to the smartphone and so the rider can still access navigation even when the smartphone signal may be temporarily lost in certain locations.
Navigation functions include real time traffic, estimated time of arrival, and alternative routes to avoid congestion. Other useful functions are the distance that can be ridden with the remaining fuel, and real time updates display local weather information as well as the weather situation at the chosen destination, and a weekly weather forecast.
Garmin Motorise also includes rider alerts that provide information on potential hazards such as sharp bends – and prevailing speed limits are displayed. There’s also a PhotoReal junction view that is automatically displayed in a split screen format when approaching a junction, giving information on the best lane to use for the next exit.
The Garmin Motorise app can be operated by a joystick and home button on the left handlebar while the machine is stationary – but the app is locked and cannot be operated when the motorcycle is moving.
*Not included with the TRACER 9 GT
** Garmin Motorise requires a subscription service agreement.
New 3rd generation quickshifter integrated with ACC
Unlike conventional cruise control systems which disengage when a rider uses the clutch or shifts gear, TRACER 9 GT+ riders can change gear using the new 3rd generation quickshifter even when the ACC is active.
This new cutting edge Sport Tourer is the first Yamaha to be equipped with the 3rd generation quickshifter that gives an even wider range of functionality by allowing clutchless downshifts when accelerating and clutchless upshifts when decelerating. For example, if the rider is cruising with ACC active at 100 km/h in 6th gear and is then automatically slowed by a car in front, the rider can downshift to suit the reduced riding speed without the ACC disengaging. Similarly, when cruising downhill with ACC in a lower gear the rider can shift up to reduce engine braking without losing ACC.
In order to retain a natural riding feeling the 3rd generation quickshifter will not operate in certain situations where engine rpm is extremely low or high, and also when the machine is neither accelerating nor decelerating. In these circumstances the quickshifter icon on the new TFT instrument meter will indicate whether or not the quickshifter can be used, and once the speed or rpm is changed the system will resume operation.
Integrated KYB electronically controlled ‘KADS’ semi-active suspension
The TRACER 9 GT+ is equipped with the most advanced electronic control technology to be found on any production Yamaha motorcycle, underlining Yamaha’s commitment to the Sport Touring category. The new generation KADS (KYB Actimatic Damper System) electronically controlled suspension system has been developed jointly with KYB and is designed to provide exciting sports performance together with an extremely comfortable ride.
This fully integrated front and rear suspension system is governed by the 6-axis IMU which monitors various sensors and automatically adjusts the damping forces via the Hydraulic Unit (HU) and Suspension Control Unit (SCU). KADS can be set in Sport or Comfort mode and is able to adapt itself to a wide variety of riding styles by constantly adjusting damping forces to suit the prevailing riding conditions. By analysing IMU data including the bike’s lean angle and acceleration, this sophisticated suspension system delivers a high quality ride with unmatched roadholding and elevated feelings, providing levels of confidence that confirm the TRACER 9 GT+ as Yamaha’s ultimate Sport Tourer.
Like every other electronic system featured on this highly capable motorcycle, the KYB suspension is fully integrated to always ensure stable handling performance, and it operates in conjunction with the ACC, front/rear assist Unified Brake System, as well as the radar-linked Unified Brake System and brake control.
The electronically controlled suspension’s handling characteristics are also affected by the Integrated riding modes selection, and damping settings are instantaneously adjusted via a solenoid to achieve a smooth and comfortable ride in a variety of load and riding conditions.
Integrated riding modes
TRACER 9 GT+ benefits from a refined D-Mode (the engine character selection) that is now fully integrated with the machine’s 6-Axis IMU and comprehensive suite of lean-sensitive rider aids. Previously D-Mode (the engine character selection) has operated completely separately to the various electronically controlled rider aids which required individual adjustment.
This new system is more intuitive, being much easier to understand and use on-the-fly. The rider has the option to select one of four integrated riding modes options: ‘Sport’, ‘Street’, ‘Rain’ or ‘Custom’ – all of which now work in conjunction with the engine character selection (D-mode), the traction control, slide control, lift control and electronic suspension’s damping control to ensure enhanced controllability in a wide variety of riding situations.
The ‘Sport’, ‘Street’ and ‘Rain’ selectable options feature embedded factory settings with different intervention levels to suit different conditions, and these pre-set modes have been developed by Yamaha’s designers using feedback from test riders. The fourth ‘Custom’ option enables the rider to manually select their own intervention settings for the various electronically controlled rider aids, and save it as their tailored mode.
New ergonomic handlebar switch clusters
Newly designed handlebar switch assemblies employing a joystick and home button enable the rider to operate the wider range of functions, including smartphone connectivity and navigation. Both the right and left side clusters feature a clear, logical layout and simple design – and their ergonomic layout gives smooth thumb movement for easy and intuitive operation. The switch clusters are back-lit for easier identification and use in the dark.
Refined height-adjustable rider’s seat and new seat cover material
The height adjustable rider’s seat is upgraded with new padding and a revised shape for increased comfort. While a new leather-style cover is used to enhance the overall feeling of quality and pride of ownership of this flagship Sport Tourer. It’s now a more comfortable and refined place to spend a long day’s ride.
Larger diameter rear disc brake
For improved feel the rear brake diameter is increased by nearly 9% to 267mm, the rear caliper design is revised, and a new brake pedal as well as new clear smoke front and rear fluid reservoirs enhance the overall feeling of premium quality.
Detail changes
To accommodate its higher specification and give an even more refined riding experience and pride of ownership the TRACER 9 GT+ features various detail changes, including a new USB A outlet, a newly designed instrument panel bracket and revised windscreen stays. In addition, a new rear footbrake pedal bracket matches the new rear brake system.
Dedicated colouring and finishing
To underline its position as the most refined and desirable Yamaha Sport Tourer, the TRACER 9 GT+ is offered in two exclusive multi-toned colour schemes: Icon Performance and Power Grey. Both colourways employ a hand masked split-paint design to enhance the powerful body design and finshing quality.
EU5 890cc CP3 engine producing strong, linear torque
TRACER 9 GT+ is driven by Yamaha’s highly acclaimed EU5 890cc CP3 engine that produces strong, linear torque, making this flagship Sport Tourer a remarkable performer whether touring through the Alps or commuting to the office. Equipped with Yamaha’s Acceleration Position Sensor Grip (APSG) and Yamaha Chip Controlled throttle (YCC-T), this lightweight system eliminates the need for cables and pulleys and delivers superb response with a natural feeling.
Lightweight CF aluminium die-cast frame
The TRACER 9 GT+ features a wide range of Yamaha-exclusive technology, including the aluminium die-cast main frame that has been manufactured using the company’s exclusive CF (Controlled Filling) system. This special system enables the construction of extremely light and strong frames with varying wall thicknesses – which gives an optimised rigidity balance for superior handling performance.
Unsprung weight is minimised with the use of a lightweight aluminium swinging arm, and the SpinForged wheels – also manufactured using a Yamaha-exclusive technology – not only help to enhance suspension action, but they also reduce the moment of inertia to make a significant contribution towards the machine’s light and agile handling character.
Full LED lighting and cornering lights
Lighting is a full LED system, and Yamaha’s sophisticated cornering lights are standard equipment on the TRACER 9 GT+. When the machine is travelling at 5 km/h or faster and the lean angle exceeds 7° the cornering lights automatically illuminate the inside of the turn – whether low or high beam is being used – giving a larger illuminated area of road

Revised 890cc NIKEN GT with connectivity and enabled for navigation
Sport Touring evolution
With its twin leaning front wheels the NIKEN GT offers supreme riding comfort together with elevated feelings of stability, unmatched cornering confidence and all-weather capabilities. Unlike any other model in its class, this high-tech machine is designed for open minded riders who want to take the next step in their motorcycling journey.
Featuring a higher specification together with a premium finish, the new 2023 NIKEN GT is one of Yamaha’s most sophisticated Sport Tourers and benefits from a range of advanced new engine, chassis and electronic control technologies that are designed to elevate the quality of every ride.
Equipped with a more powerful 890cc CP3 EU5 engine as well as connected TFT meter enabled for Garmin navigation**, enhanced suspension, improved ergonomics and state-of-the-art electronics, this unique machine delivers the excellent corner carving performance together with remarkable long distance capabilities.
Solo or with a passenger, this flagship Sport Tourer has the potential to offer an alternative perspective on the world – as well as the ability to inspire, excite and exhilarate on every journey to any destination.
Newly developed 890cc CP3 EU5 engine
The 2023 NIKEN GT receives a substantial upgrade to its performance and ride quality with the newly developed 890cc EU5 engine. With an increase in engine capacity of almost 5%, this latest generation of Yamaha’s highly successful CP3 engine is a variation of the design used in the TRACER 9 GT and MT-09 – two of the most popular models in their respective classes.
While the basic architecture is similar to the powerplant used on these models – in-line 3-cylinder, 12-valve, 890cc, 11,5 : 1 compression, and bore x stroke of 78,0 x 62,1 mm – the NIKEN GT’s new engine is a further development of this highly regarded design.
The key difference is the use of reshaped crank webs with an increased mass of 8% – giving a significant change in engine character that delivers stronger acceleration from a standstill and gives greater ease of use and better controllability at lower rpm. For 2023 the new NIKEN GT engine is mounted with a 5° forward incline for optimum chassis balance and to accommodate this the new 890cc engine, features a redesigned crankcase – while a new radiator is fitted to handle the increased performance.
7-inch TFT multi-theme meter
The NIKEN GT riding experience is elevated to a new level with the fitment of high luminosity 7-inch TFT meter that enhance this unique machine’s premium feel and character.
The full colour display offers a choice of three different screen themes, each one of them designed to match different riding scenarios and personal preferences to create a feeling of harmony between the machine and rider.
Smartphone connectivity
For an enriched experience the NIKEN GT is equipped with a communication control unit that enables the rider to link their smartphone with the machine using Yamaha’s free MyRide-Link app. Once the connection is made via USB-cable*, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth® it is possible for the rider to view information on incoming calls, emails and messages on the TFT meter – and by using a Bluetooth®-connected headset* NIKEN GT riders and passengers can also listen to music and respond to calls.
Various menus and functions can be selected using the joystick and home button on the left handlebar. When stationary the NIKEN GT’s TFT meter can be set to display everything from weather reports to detailed notifications.
*Not included with the NIKEN GT.
Garmin navigation enabled
After connecting a smartphone with the MyRide-Link app and downloading the Garmin Motorise app** a navigation window can be displayed on the connected TFT meter. The Garmin Motorise app can be operated by a joystick and home button on the left handlebar while the machine is stationary – but the app is locked on the connected TFT meter and cannot be operated by the joystick when the NIKEN GT is in motion.
Garmin’s Motorise app enables the rider to select from a choice of different types of route such as fastest, shortest, highway and more – and spoken turn-by-turn directions can be sent to a paired Bluetooth®-connected headset*. Map data is downloaded to the smartphone and so the NIKEN GT rider can still access navigation even when the smartphone signal may be interrupted in mountainous regions.
Navigation functions include real time traffic***, estimated time of arrival, and alternative routes to avoid congestion – and real time updates display local weather information as well as the weather situation at the chosen destination. Garmin Motorise also includes rider alerts that provide information on potential hazards such as sharp bends*** – and prevailing speed limits are displayed. There’s also a PhotoReal junction view that is automatically displayed in a split screen format when approaching a junction, giving information on the best lane to use for the next exit.
** Garmin Motorise requires a subscription service agreement.
*** Availability may vary per country.
Adjustable windscreen
For improved long distance comfort for riders of varying sizes the NIKEN GT is equipped with a new screen that offers 70mm of manual up & down adjustment using a lever next to the new TFT meter. This new screen is specially designed to distribute a smooth air flow both into and around the exterior of the cockpit to equalise air pressure for a smoother riding experience.
Redesigned comfort seat
Every new feature on the NIKEN GT is designed to provide increased ride quality and enhanced performance, and the new seat has been specifically designed to give improved foot reach to the ground. With a revised shape and different thickness of padding where it is in contact with rider’s inner thighs, the new seat makes getting on and off – and putting feet down when stopped – much easier and more comfortable.
New handlebar switches, twin power outlets, heated grips
New handlebar switches include a 5-way joystick to operate various TFT functions including smartphone displays and Garmin navigation. The cockpit is equipped with a USB-A outlet – with a 12V outlet under the seat. For all year warmth the NIKEN GT, comes with grip heaters as standard equipment.
Full size hard side cases
To underline its excellent long distance capability the NIKEN GT is fitted with hard side cases giving 30 litres capacity per side. New style luggage stays are featured to give a secure mount and there are comfortable passenger handgrips.
High quality black finish with bronze coloured parts
NIKEN GT’s all black body, engine and front end reinforce the premium looks and confirm the flagship status of this unique Sport Tourer. The perfect fit and high quality finish is second to none – and the appearance of this exceptional machine is further enhanced by the bronze coloured wheels and key body parts that reinforce its high end specification.
Enhanced electronic control technology
For the highest degree of controllability the NIKEN GT is equipped with a range of new electronics. A Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) and ride-by-wire Accelerator Position Sensor Grip (APSG) replace the previous model’s cable and pulley system to give a smooth and natural feel to the throttle. The starting acceleration assist system is also revised to provide a more natural level of intervention by automatically maintaining an appropriate rpm level when the clutch is engaged.
D-Mode settings are amended to work effectively with the new high torque 890cc engine, and the rider can select from ‘SPORT’ (direct throttle response), ‘STREET’ (smooth throttle response) and ‘RAIN’ (mild throttle response) settings. In ‘RAIN’ mode maximum power is reduced by 18% to ensure the rider experiences an easy to use engine character for a high degree of controllability.
The parameters of the NIKEN GT’s traction control system have also been adjusted to match the increased performance of the new engine, and the system offers three levels of intervention – with ‘1’ being the minimum and ‘2’ being the maximum, as well as an ‘OFF’ option. The degree of intervention of the traction control system is also automatically adjusted to match whichever D-Mode is selected to ensure that the rider maintains optimum control.
To match its long distance capabilities the NIKEN GT is also fitted with a cruise control system. The rider can activate the system when in 4th gear or higher and can adjust the speed in 2 km/h increments for greater convenience and comfort.
Full up & down quickshifter, A&S clutch
For effective acceleration the NIKEN GT’s new more powerful engine is fitted with a quickshifter, and the system on the 2023 model is upgraded to offer both up and down functions – whereas the previous model was upshift only.
Together with the new Assist and Slipper (A&S) clutch, the quickshifter helps to maintain the NIKEN GT’s high levels of stability when shifting gears and during acceleration and deceleration.
Refined main frame design
NIKEN GT’s unique main frame is a special design that features a cast steel head pipe assembly to accommodate the LMW front end, together with a tubular steel main frame and cast aluminium rear brackets. For 2023 key sections of the main frame have been redesigned to match the requirements of the new more powerful 890cc CP3 EU5 engine which is inclined forward by 5º to achieve optimum handling performance.
Revised rear suspension
To complement the redesigned frame and ensure an ideal stability balance with the LMW front end, NIKEN GT’s rear suspension layout is revised. An all-new rear shock linkage arm is manufactured from forged aluminium, saving 236g in unsprung weight compared to the previous steel component.
This new lightweight arm features a revised lever variance ratio which, together with new rear shock settings and a smaller diameter shock spring, provides a smoother solo ride and gives firmer and effective rear suspension performance when riding with a passenger.
Specially designed front tyres
The dual leaning front wheels are fitted with 15-inch radial tyres that have been specially developed to meet the particular requirements of the LMW front end steering assembly. With an optimised balance of rigidity and special compound the 120/17R15 front tyres and 190/55R17 rear tyre provide excellent handling performance together with enhanced feelings of stability and confidence associated with the Yamaha LMW system.
New intake and exhaust design
Every detail of the NIKEN GT has been evaluated and analysed in Yamaha’s mission to make it the ultimate high end long distance sport tourer, and for an even more relaxing and enjoyable journey the intake and air cleaner have been redesigned for a quieter ride. There’s also a new exhaust to meet EU5 regulations, and the new design offers increased ground clearance that helps to reduce the likelihood of accidental damage.

New R125: Yamaha’s highest specification Supersport lightweight
Complete Supersport range from 125cc through to 1000cc
Incredibly it is exactly 25 years since Yamaha rocked the motorcycle world with the unveiling of the very first R1 in front of a stunned audience of journalists who could barely believe what Yamaha had created. With its ultra-lightweight, remarkably compact dimensions and class-leading power output, this iconic motorcycle represented the beginning of a truly amazing new era for Europe’s Supersport riders.
The arrival of the first R1 was just the beginning. R1M, R6, R3, R125 and more recently the R7 were to follow in its tyre tracks, each of them created in the image of R1 – the undisputed King of Supersport. By bringing genuine race bike technology and performance to the street, Yamaha’s R-Series models have been inspiring many thousands of riders for a quarter of a century.
Yamaha’s R-Series continues to set the agenda with the widest range of exhilarating Supersport models from 125cc through to 1000cc. With a winning track record in the world’s most prestigious racing championships, R-Series has established itself as the definitive family of high performance machines. And for 2023 the launch of the next generation R125 reaffirms Yamaha’s commitment to offering every rider the most exceptional high performance riding experience.
4th Generation R125: R-Connection
When Yamaha launched the very first R125 in 2008 it brought advanced Supersport design and technology to the 125cc A1 license class. Setting new standards for thrilling performance, handling agility and aggressive style, this best-in-class bike became an overnight success – and has maintained its position as the premiere high performance lightweight to this day.
During the past 15 years this iconic machine has consistently evolved to maintain its superstar status amongst performance minded riders who are looking for the ultimate race-developed motorcycle. Designed for young and uncompromising Supersport riders at the beginning of their relationship with the R-Series, R125 continues to show the way ahead.
Every Yamaha Supersport is developed with the same pure R-Series DNA that has made the flagship R1 the dominant bike in World and British Superbike racing. Race-bred technology is also evident throughout the 2023 R125, from the dynamic new body design through to its Deltabox frame technology and radial mount front brake caliper.
Featuring an instantly recognisable new face that is directly inspired by the R7 – and equipped with connected TFT instruments as well as a range of chassis refinements and new electronics – the 4th generation Yamaha R125 gives every rider a real taste of where R/World can take them.
Latest R-Series design
R125 gets a whole new look that underlines its status as Yamaha’s ultimate lightweight Supersport and reinforces the R-Series family ties that make it such a special motorcycle.
A powerful new bi-functional LED headlight sits centrally in the M-shaped nose and delivers a brilliant low and high beam for excellent vision and visibility. The headlight’s ultra-compact dimensions and low weight have enabled the fitment of a highly aerodynamic front cowling with R7-inspired LED position lights to give the R125 a radical new ‘big-bike’ appearance.
Featuring a more aggressive face as well as an aerodynamic new fairing and redesigned vented tank covers that convey the feeling of a strong horizontal flow, the all-new body transforms the appearance of the lightest Yamaha Supersport. This reshaped bodywork gives a fully coordinated and refined look that underlines this best-in-class bike’s status as the premium high performance 125.
R1-inspired 5-inch TFT instruments
The new 2023 R125 benefits from the very latest 5-inch full colour TFT instruments inspired by the flagship R1. Two different graphic themes are featured: the rider can select either ‘Street’ theme or ‘Track’ theme to match different riding situations. ‘Street’ theme features a central digital speedometer and a bar-type tachometer as well as an array at the base that includes flasher/main beam/temperature warning lights. ‘Track’ theme is a more focused layout featuring a central lap timer with a 25 lap memory and bar-type tachometer above – providing the rider with key information when they’re on a race circuit.
Both screen themes feature a programmable shift light at the top of the display – and ‘Track’ theme incorporates a programmable rpm meter range, enabling the rider to customise the visuals to match their riding style and individual preferences.
Smartphone connectivity
Staying in touch is now even easier for R125 riders because the 2023 model is equipped with a Communication Control Unit (CCU) that enables smartphone connectivity. To activate the connectivity, the rider’s smartphone firstly needs to be linked to the machine via Bluetooth® using Yamaha’s free MyRide app. As soon as the owner has linked their smartphone, they can see notifications of incoming calls and text messages on the new 5-inch TFT screen, as well as monitor key parameters of the bike via the app.
Riders can also access information including smartphone battery status, and in the event of any technical issue with the R125, the system can notify a Yamaha dealer or any other designated contact that has been selected by the owner.
Traction control system
For the highest level of confidence and control the R125 is equipped with a traction control system. Together with the A&S clutch and the optional quick shift system, the traction control enables the R125 rider to experience a high degree of controllability especially during full throttle acceleration. The status of this switchable system is displayed on the new 5-inch TFT instruments, and it can be turned off to suit certain situations such as track riding.
New R1-inspired upper triple clamp and handlebar switches
Overall feel and appearance of the R125’s cockpit is elevated to a whole new level with the new 5-inch TFT instruments as well as new R1-inspired high quality upper triple clamp that reinforces the bike’s pure R-Series DNA.
The clip-on handlebars are equipped with new R1-inspired ergonomic switches that enable the rider to control intuitively various functions including the new TFT screen theme.
Pre-wired for quickshifter
Every Yamaha R-Series is a race-bred machine that is inspired by the no-compromise spirit of the winning R1M and constructed with the latest race developed technology. The 2023 model is prewired for a quick shifter, making it straightforward for R125 riders to fit a Genuine Yamaha quick shift system that enables seamless full throttle upshifts for stronger acceleration.
Michelin Pilot Street tyres
The 2023 model is equipped with Michelin Pilot Street tyres that have been developed to offer sporty handling together with strong performance in the wet and dry – while their latest tread design offers an excellent grip / wear balance. Running on a 100/80-17 front tyre and a wide 140/70-17 rear tyre, this combination provides the R125 with excellent roadholding and agile cornering.

Yamaha Hyper Naked range 2023
New connected TFT meters for the best-selling MT-07 & MT-125
With their brutal no-compromise styling, muscular chassis designs and thrilling torque-rich crossplane engine technology, it’s no surprise that Yamaha’s Hyper Naked models have established themselves as the best-selling models in their respective categories.
Inspired by the alternative biking culture characterised by the Dark Side of Japan philosophy, the MT range has achieved 10 years of continued success in the European market. With over 420.000 sold, these Yamaha Hyper Nakeds have created their very own subculture of MT riders who have been inspired by their raw appeal and the ability to deliver stunning real-world performance.
Delivering an impressive mix of super agile handling, outstanding acceleration and uncompromising attitude, the MT line up covers the whole segment from 125cc through to 1000cc, offering a seamless step-up for every rider of any age.
For 2023 this outstandingly successful range is reinforced with higher specification versions of the MT-07 and MT-125. The full lineup is completed with the iconic MT-09 & MT-09 SP and the remarkable MT-10 & MT-10 SP – the most powerful Yamaha Hyper Naked.
2023 MT-07:
New full-colour TFT meter with smartphone connectivity
Having been at the top of the sales charts for a decade, the MT-07 needs little introduction. Suffice to say that the original concept of a torque-rich engine combined with a compact and agile chassis finished off with muscular bodywork has remained fundamentally the same – showing that Yamaha’s designers got it right first time.
MT-07’s core values are much appreciated by Europe’s riders and with sales of over 160.000, this machine is one of the most successful Yamaha motorcycles of all time. Since the original model was introduced in 2014 it has evolved gradually to match the requirements of the market, but Yamaha has always been careful to ensure that the pure and undiluted design of this remarkable middleweight retains its essential character.
Dual theme 5-inch full-colour TFT meter
The 2023 MT-07 features a range of upgrades that enhance the package while remaining true to the basic concept that’s loved by so many riders. The most significant upgrade is the new 5-inch full-colour TFT display that provides a choice of two different screen themes. The Street Theme is a more modern looking layout with a bar-type tachometer at the top and digital speedo and gear selection readouts – while the Touring Theme has a more conventional circular analogue-style tachometer on the right of the screen and digital speedometer on the left.
Smartphone connectivity with MyRide app
By downloading Yamaha’s free MyRide app to their smartphone, riders can connect with the communication control unit on latest MT-07 via Bluetooth® and view incoming call, email and message notifications on the new TFT meter.
If set up accordingly, the system can also notify the rider of any technical issue that may be detected on the MT-07 and can transmit a notification via email to a motorcycle dealer or any other contact that has been designated by the rider.
MyRide app also offers many other useful functions including monitoring all key parameters of the bike, tracking the route taken, as well as recording the distance covered, acceleration, top speed, lean angle and much more. Data can be shared on social media, compared and discussed with other Yamaha Hyper Naked riders on some of the many internet forums and social media groups.
Pre-wired for easy quickshifter fitment
Yamaha’s comprehensive Genuine Accessories line includes numerous stylistic, comfort and performance products that the MT-07 rider can select to upgrade and personalise their machine. To facilitate the fitment of a quickshifter, the latest MT-07 is prewired with the necessary electronics, making it quick and easy to benefit from the thrilling acceleration and seamless gear changes offered by this new Yamaha Genuine Accessory.

Popular with a wide range of customers from A1 license holders through to more experienced riders looking for a characterful lightweight, the MT-125 is upgraded for 2023 with a new 5-inch full-colour TFT screen that gives smartphone connectivity.
The system is identical to the new design featured on the MT-07, however only one display theme is available – Street Theme. After Yamaha’s MyRide app is downloaded to the rider’s smartphone and linked to the MT-125’s communication control unit, riders can view incoming call, email and message notifications on the full colour screen.
If set up accordingly, the system can also notify the rider of any technical issue that may be detected on the MT-125 and can transmit a notification via email to a motorcycle dealer or any other contact that has been designated by the rider.
As well as enabling smartphone connectivity, Yamaha’s free MyRide app also adds another dimension to every ride by recording a range of data on every journey. It enables the rider to review routes taken as well as look at other information regarding the bike’s performance. It’s a great way to learn more about the way they use the bike and remember favourite roads and places they visit – and it’s great for sharing and comparing with like-minded MT riders on social media.
New traction control system
The MT-125 already has a comprehensive specification including a 125cc engine with torque-boosting Variable Valve Actuation, as well as an Assist and Slipper clutch, upside down forks and large diameter disc brakes. For 2023 the MT-125’s level of equipment is further refined with a new traction control system that gives the rider an even higher level of confidence and control.

2023 Yamaha Ténéré 700 & Ténéré 700 Rally Edition
Instrument upgrades, smartphone connectivity and ABS refinements
Since its launch in 2019, the Ténéré 700 has achieved outstanding success throughout Europe. With over 40.000 units sold, its special combination of a high torque 690cc CP2 engine with a rugged dual purpose chassis has reaffirmed Yamaha’s position as one of the leading manufacturers of Adventure bikes – and the legendary Ténéré is once again the definitive motorcycle for every explorer and adventure seeker.
The line has been further strengthened with the Ténéré 700 Rally Edition featuring an additional range of premium upgrades that equip it for the toughest terrain – and the recent introduction of the long range Ténéré 700 World Raid has given every rider the possibility to go even further beyond the Next Horizon.
The incredible potential of the Ténéré 700 models has been demonstrated by factory rider and brand ambassador Pol Tarrés who became the first person to ride a 2-cylinder machine in the Erzbergrodeo, outperforming many riders on lightweight enduro machinery.
Pol was joined by Tunisia Desert Challenge winner Alessandro Botturi in the Ténéré World Raid Rally Team for the Africa Eco Race in October. And while the race team blasted through Africa, Nick Sanders has once again demonstrated his remarkable spirit of adventure as well as the class leading performance, durability and reliability of Yamaha’s adventure bike by completing the first circumnavigation of the globe on a Ténéré 700.
For 2023 the Ténéré 700 and Ténéré 700 Rally Edition feature a number of important upgrades and refinements that add value to the overall package and reinforce their position as the world’s leading Adventure machines.
World Raid style 5-inch TFT meter
Both the Ténéré 700 and Ténéré 700 Rally Edition are equipped with new 5-inch TFT meters. This high quality dashboard features a choice of two screen themes to suit different riding situations.
In “Explorer” screen mode the focus is on the RPM scale, enabling the rider to concentrate on maintaining the strongest torque output for effective dirt riding performance. The “Street” screen is a more conventional look with analogue style circular dials. Both screen styles feature a clearly designed layout with easy to read icons and warning lights that enable the rider to stay focused on the road or track in front of them.
Smartphone connectivity
Staying in touch is now even easier for Ténéré riders because the 2023 models are equipped with a Communication Control Unit (CCU) that enables smartphone connectivity. To activate the connectivity, the rider’s smartphone firstly needs to be linked to the machine via Bluetooth® using Yamaha’s free MyRide app. As soon as the owner has linked their smartphone, they can see notifications of incoming calls, emails and text messages on the new 5-inch TFT screen, as well as monitor key parameters of the bike via the app.
If set up accordingly, the system can also notify the rider of any technical issue that may be detected on the Ténéré and can transmit a notification via email to a motorcycle dealer or any other contact that has been designated by the rider.
MyRide app also offers many other useful functions including monitoring all key parameters of the bike, tracking the route taken, as well as recording the distance covered, acceleration, top speed, elevation changes and much more. Data can be shared on social media, compared and discussed with other Yamaha Adventure riders on some of the many internet forums and dedicated social media groups.
Enhanced ABS modes
The previous model’s ABS system offered a choice of ON or OFF modes, and for 2023 both the Ténéré 700 and Ténéré 700 Rally Edition are equipped with an enhanced 3-mode ABS. Already featured on the World Raid model, this improved system enables the rider to select Full ON; Front wheel ON rear wheel OFF; and Full OFF.
Full ON is mandatory when riding on the street, Front wheel ON rear wheel OFF is designed for use in moderate off road riding where grip is not constant, while Full OFF is suitable for more extreme off road riding.
Pre-wired for quickshifter
Ténéré 700 and Ténéré 700 Rally Edition are pre-wired for the fitment of an optional quick shifter system that is now available as a Yamaha Genuine Accessory.
Redesigned front brake lever, new USB socket, LED flashers
For improved durability the front brake lever has been redesigned to withstand accidental damage if the machine falls down. Other upgrades include a new USB socket in place of the previous 12V design, as well as LED flashers.
Updates for Ténéré 700 & Ténéré 700 Rally Edition
- 5-inch dual-theme TFT meter
- Smartphone connectivity
- 3-mode ABS
- New colours and graphics for Ténéré 700 – Icon Blue and Tech Kamo

Three model KLX140R line for 2023

Sharing the same robust and highly regarded 4-stroke SOHC air-cooled, electric start engine matched to lightweight, rigid frames, the three bike KLX140R range for 2023 caters for growing riders and growing confidence alike with their narrow profile chassis’ contributing easy rider grip and smooth movement on the bike.
Equipped with five speed transmissions and manual clutches, the trio of KLX R models begins with the KLX140R. With its low seat height of just 780mm, this is the first chance for many young riders to experience not just the thrill of two wheels but also opportunity to master the operation of a manual clutch and five close ratio competition style gears.
Equipped with front and rear hydraulic disc brakes and sharing the same aggressive track-ready looks of the competition focused KX stable, the KLX140R is for many lucky young riders a “lime green hello” to the world of riding and Kawasaki.
Moving on physically – and appealing to riders further up the height and age scale – is the KLX140R L. Sporting 19-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels, the KLX140R L rider will enjoy an 800mm seat height and a curb mass of just 95Kg making the machine easy to manoeuvre when riding and a cinch to load after a long day of enjoyable riding. At the zenith of the KLX140R range for 2023 is the KLX140R F equipped with adult off road bike sized 21-inch front and 19 inch rear wheels. Making full use of the 8.3kW (11PS) power and 12Nm (1.2kgm) torque at 6000 rpm that is a characteristic of all machines in the KLX140R range, the KLX140R F pilot can relish similar chassis dimensions to an adult MX machine while having the reassurance of predictable and manageable power delivery plus adjustable rear suspension. As a final step before entering the full-on competition arena, the KLX140R F model is a great choice of machine.
From juniors first tentative steps to pushing the door wide open on adult riding, the highly regarded KLX140R range is ready and willing to add fun and enjoyment in 2023.
Yamaha's 2026 Off Road Competition range reflects this philosophy. With genuine racing DNA running through the range, Yamaha have further boosted the race-winning performance and handling of the YZ450F, redesigned the intake system and enhanced carburation of the YZ125, and made the whole range more appealing with updated colours and graphics.
Yamaha is also adding to the line-up four special 70th anniversary models. These bikes with their stunning special livery weave together the rich fabric of Yamaha’s past and present off road race success with the promise of maintaining the fighting spirit that keeps the victories coming in the future.

FOR WINNERS, BY WINNERS: THE 2026 YZ450F
The new YZ450F features a new engine, with the intake system redesigned for greater ease of use with more linear throttle response and improved control in the low-to mid-speed range. Torque characteristics have also been improved for better feel.
The exhaust has been made quieter, and the muffler's attachment angle was lowered slightly to create more space to allow easier pick up at the rear fender. The 2026 YZ450F also features a new hydraulic clutch, which eliminates the need for adjustments during racing, keeping the meshing point constant during continued riding.
The YZ450F’s frame has been further improved to achieve even greater usability, comfort and feel. To match it characteristics, the front suspension setting has been modified, further improving the feel and stability, and reducing fatigue. For the rear, a new rear suspension has been jointly developed with KYB, providing smoother transition of the damping force from the low-to high-speed range.
When the 2026 YZ450F is parked between the races, an ECU lock function enables the rider to lock the bike on the Power Tuner App. The YZ450F also delivers when it comes to looks. The new bodywork has been styled to accentuating its light and compact stance, while a new seat with anti-slide surface provides better control.
Tying the model even firmer to Yamaha’s past, present and future racing success is the YZ450F 70th Anniversary Edition, featuring a stunning white and red livery inspired by the iconic YZM400F.

TWO STROKES AHEAD: THE 2026 YZ125
The latest YZ125 features a redesign of its intake system and optimised carburation and ignition timing to deliver more consistent and more linear power delivery, excellent throttle response and smoother corner exit, making the YZ125 even more versatile, and suitable for a wider range of riders from beginners to experts.
And with the 70th Anniversary Edition, Yamaha adds the special white and red livery to the long list of the iconic machine’s attributes.

Firmly established in many global markets as the ideal youth or “first time” powered off-road four-wheeler, the KFX 90 will officially appear in the UK for the first time in 2023.
Aggressively styled to echo larger, adult focused KFX quad machines – as well as drawing influence from the two-wheeled KX motocross range – there is no mistaking the updated and restyled frontal area of the lime green racing bodywork with its tall front fenders and Kawasaki branded handlebar pad, but that is just a small part of the story.
While junior dreams of all the terrain they will conquer…. and all the mud they will blast through, parents will zone in on some of the great safety features that create reassurance and allow safe and structured use of this, the first powered vehicle many of the riders will have ever operated.
To start with; the electric starter. The KFX90 is started by inserting and turning an ignition key (that at other times can be kept safe and “out of harm’s way”) plus there is a clever “starter lock-out” safety feature meaning the KFX90 can only be started with the brakes fully applied. And in terms of brakes, no corners are cut with handlebar levers left and right with the front drum brakes operated from the right lever plus a powerful hydraulic rear disc actuated by the left handlebar lever.
That’s start and stop dealt with but what about Go? Utilising a compact and time-proven 89.9cc four-stroke , air-cooled engine, the KFX90 is CVT equipped meaning the only thing junior has to concentrate on is what appropriate speed to travel at and when to apply the brakes leaving the continuously variable transmission to do the rest. Incidentally, there is a throttle stop mechanism that can be set by an adult supervisor so that learning to operate the KFX90 can be done step-by-step with a grown up rationing the urge available.
Two other areas where style meets practicality are the footboards and the new lighting array. Deep non-slip material equipped footboards and compact bodywork styling ensure that the riders’ feet remain inboard and safe at all times, while LED front accent lights and a large rear light are bright, easy to see and low maintenance.
Underpinned by a highly competent and rigid steel cradle chassis with high quality independent adjustable A-arm front suspension and swingarm rear suspension, the KFX is a great introduction to both powered off-road vehicles and Kawasaki. Bring on the Tougher Terrains and Bigger Adventures, the KXF90 is ready and waiting.
The KXF90 will arrive in dealers in late October and the SRP is £3,299

2023 KX250 increases available power while decreasing lap times
A competition reference machine, the Kawasaki KX250 is a pivotal bike in the Kawasaki range appealing to youth, intermediate, national and full class MX2 riders; each with their own special wants and needs. For 2023, the Kawasaki engineers have absorbed feedback from AMA Supercross, the MX2 class in the MXGP paddock and, closer to home, the All-Japan Motocross Championship. And the distillation of all that feedback has produced a machine that will ably answer the needs of its diverse customer base.
Chief among many changes are those in the engine group. Within the cylinder head a narrower pitch for the intake valves (37 mm to 35.5 mm), coupled with increased clearance at the valve seats, delivers increased cylinder-filling efficiency and improved combustion for increased peak performance. And to accurately fill that cylinder, the downdraft style intake duct is straighter plus the upstream injector is repositioned from above to below the duct. These changes further contribute to increased cylinder-filling efficiency which adds to peak performance. In terms of the valves themselves, they are smaller (ø32 mm to ø31 mm) contributing to cylinder-head/valve-seat reliability while enabling the tighter valve pitch while the piston crown is revised to match the valve size and pitch changes.
Aside from the greater engine performance due to these new efficiencies a longer exhaust header pipe (457 mm to 557 mm) offers increased low-mid range torque while the Akashi engineers also ensured that advanced ignition timing matches the engine changes. In terms of power feeling, a new magneto rotor with an increased moment of inertia (9.5 kg·cm2 to 10.0 kg·cm2) contributes to a more racer-friendly power delivery.
In terms of gears, ratios three, four, five and six remain the same but a longer first gear is introduced thanks to feedback from AMA Supercross and the second gear is also modified to make a smoother transition between first and third.
All Japan Motocross Championship experience resulted in changes to the front fork internals to deliver firmer compression damping that contributes to increased off-road performance without sacrificing ride comfort. While the fork spring rate itself is unchanged, a revised oil height contributes to optimised overall spring characteristics. The rear suspension now features firmer compression damping contributing to increased off-road performance without sacrificing ride comfort.
Other chassis upgrades include the adoption of a wider rear tyre for 2023 in the form of Dunlop’s MX33 110/90-19 to compared to the 100/90-19 used last year while the footpegs are 5 mm wider (front-to-rear) and positioned 3 mm rearward to offer excellent grip, superb feel making it easier to weight the pegs plus they are lighter too.
Wise tuners will tell you that gradual refinement and upgrades that integrate seamlessly are often the route to racing success and that is just the route that Kawasaki takes for its quarter litre race class machine. Useable power, considered engine and chassis upgrades plus genuine podium potential, its got to be the new 2023 KX250 from Kawasaki.

Kawasaki unveils 2023 off road range
Covering the widest spectrum of off-road sport and fun riding, the 2023 Kawasaki off-road motorcycle range has just been announced. Catering for the needs of professional podium chasers, committed enduro riders, enthusiastic weekend competitors and those just starting on two-wheels, the range is certainly comprehensive.

Entry level and first championship riders will enjoy the KLX110R and KX65 respectively with the four-stroke KLX employing a 4-speed transmission with automatic clutch for stall-free shifting, it is the ideal machine to learn the craft of off-road riding on while the two-stroke KX65 is the stuff of legends, having won more races and championships than any proud father has had time to put up trophy shelves.
Further up the capacity scale – and sticking with the two-stroke theme – are the small and large wheel KX85 machines. They are liquid-cooled and feature Kawasaki’s Uni-Trak suspension while benefiting from constant refinement keeping them competitive and reliable. And that reliability and durability is something that Kawasaki owners report back on often. No use being fast one day and in the garage with a stripped down, unreliable bike the next weekend. It’s consistency that wins Championships. At the top end of the range is the mighty KX450, the most powerful production MX machine Kawasaki has ever manufactured. Created to dominate in the upper echelons of off-road sport, the mighty KX450 continues to carve a fearsome reputation heading up an impressive range of off-road machines.
In terms of enduro style machines, the successful KX450X and KX250X feature boldly in the new season range both ready to attack Hare & Hound style events plus organised enduro events that allow such machines to compete.
A new off-road season is always something to welcome and Kawasaki dealers across Europe are looking forward to answering the riding needs of a diverse audience. The green team is ready for the good times ahead in 2023 and prepared to do anything it takes to help Kawasaki riders achieve the success they deserve.
Prices and availability will be confirmed soon.

Motocross-winning technology for Yamaha’s 250cc enduro bike
Yamaha’s WR250F and WR450F enduro bikes feature some of the smartest technology in the off road world, including a unique reversed cylinder head engine design as well as the pioneering Power Tuner smartphone app that offers fast and easy trackside tuning.
The forward-facing intake and rear-exit exhaust creates a reversed layout that not only gives greater inlet efficiency for stronger engine performance – it also helps to achieve a high level of mass centralisation by locating the air intake in front of the bike, with the fuel tank positioned in the centre. The use of a rearward-slanted cylinder and wraparound exhaust also helps to centralise weight, giving extremely agile handling and lightweight manoeuvrability.
As well as their powerful and tractable engines, the WR250F and WR450F enduro bikes also benefit from an industry-leading chassis design that utilises a lightweight aluminium bilateral beam chassis with best-in-class KYB speed sensitive front forks and a link-type rear end that delivers precise and stable handling on the most hostile and challenging terrain.
For 2022 the WR250F has undergone a major engine and chassis upgrade with advanced technology from the bike that has dominated the 250cc motocross class in 2021.
So far this year the YZ250F has won both the East and West AMA 250 Supercross titles, and has taken an impressive number of victories in the MX2 World Championship and the AMA 250MX National Championship. With a more powerful engine that delivers stronger performance across the rpm range, together with a revised frame with rebalanced rigidity levels and a more powerful braking system, the new WR250F has the ability to succeed at every level.
New WR250F: Faster and sharper
In the enduro world the WR250F is already one of the most competitive and useable bikes in its class. Its wide spread of torque makes it the kind of motorcycle that brings out the best performance in every rider – whatever their riding skill and off road experience. And its winning technology is backed up by Yamaha’s premium quality and legendary reliability.
Stronger engine performance
The 2022 WR250F is equipped with a higher specification liquid-cooled 4-stroke electric-start engine that has been substantially uprated by the adoption of many of the power-boosting features seen on the current championship-winning YZ250F.
A new YZ250F-type cylinder head is one of the key components that gives the 2022 WR250F much stronger mid to top-end performance for even faster special test times. The engine’s front-facing inlet also incorporates new ducting, and together with a wider YZ250F-type intake port this new design gives a superior intake flow rate for higher combustion efficiency and increased power across the rpm range.
The new head is also fitted with a redesigned exhaust camshaft for improved low to mid-range power. New ECU settings are designed to optimise the new engine’s useability at all speeds, and for all-day comfort there’s a redesigned balancer as well as a new shift cam that gives smoother and easier gearshifting. The wraparound header pipe features a new heat guard that prevents snagging – and there’s also a stronger bracket on the short muffler.
A key asset available to WR250F riders is the Power Tuner app that enables wireless engine tuning using a smartphone. This innovative technology makes it easy to adjust the engine power character to suit different terrains and changing surface conditions – and a handlebar-mounted switch makes it possible for the rider to select between 2 uploaded engine mappings for on-the-fly power adjustments.
Revised frame rigidity
For the 2022 race season the WR250F’s lightweight aluminium bilateral beam frame also features the latest technology from the winning YZ250F. Manufactured using Yamaha’s advanced CF die-casting technique that enables the use of walls of varying thicknesses, the frame features a revised balance of rigidity to match the higher performance of the new engine.
By adjusting the flex of the frame in specific locations – and fitting new tuned-rigidity engine mounts – Yamaha’s engineers are able to create an incredibly strong chassis that also delivers excellent levels of feedback, giving the rider a more connected feeling with the track surface.
Race-winning KYB suspension
Yamaha’s industry-leading KYB front forks with their best-in-class speed sensitive damping system are further refined for 2022 with a range of modifications that give even better feeling handling and steering. New damping settings match the revised rigidity of the new chassis, and a redesigned top triple clamp, handlebar clamps, footpegs and front axle further refine the ride quality.
The link type rear end has also been uprated with revised damping settings on the KYB shock to make the WR250’s suspension system one of the best original equipment packages in the enduro world.
Higher performance YZ250F-type front brake
Braking power is just as important as engine power, and the 2022 WR250F is equipped with a lighter and more powerful front brake set up from the MX2 GP-winning YZ250F.
This more advanced design uses a 30% more rigid front caliper that’s equipped with larger diameter 25.4mm pistons and a new 270mm front disc. New brake pads have a 25% greater surface area than the previous system, giving powerful and highly controllable braking performance that can shave precious seconds off crucial test times.
New multi-function meter
During a long and hard day’s riding the compact and lightweight new multi-meter keeps the rider informed with a range of information. In standard mode the meter displays the speedometer, clock, timer and two tripmeters – and in race mode the display shows the key information needed during an enduro such as average speed, timer and trip functionality. There’s also an accumulated fuel consumption meter indicator as well as fuel and engine warning lights.

All-new YZ125: Agility. Ability. Victory.
For 2022 the all-new YZ125 gets a completely redesigned higher performance engine along with a seriously upgraded chassis and a slimmer and more radical looking body to make this the most competitive YZ125 ever.
Delivering a significantly higher power output along with better useability – and featuring sharper handling, stronger braking and improved ergonomics – the new YZ125 is designed to become the default choice for up and coming riders looking to increase their confidence and experience, and take their performance to the next level.
Its advanced specification clearly demonstrates Yamaha’s desire to give tomorrow’s champions the very best equipment in their teenage years so that they’re ready to fight for the biggest prize when they move on up to the professional ranks.
New 125cc engine: Increased performance with improved useability
For 2022 Yamaha’s engineers have worked flat-out to create the most powerful engine ever fitted to a production YZ125. In their quest for stronger race-winning performance the design team have built an all-new 125cc, 2-stroke engine that develops significantly higher power in the mid to high rpm range.
Virtually every major component on the 2022 engine is new, and the comprehensive redesign delivers a significant increase in the maximum power output, to give the YZ125 a real winning advantage when the gate drops. The increased power together with improved useability and a better over-rev feeling enable motocross racers to take maximum advantage of the horsepower gains and outperform the opposition on all parts of the track.
All-new head, cylinder and piston
The YZ125’s cylinder head, cylinder and piston are completely redesigned as part of the drive towards achieving increased performance along with enhanced power characteristics. The most significant changes include a reshaped combustion chamber, as well as a shorter exhaust port and revised cylinder porting which give a significant improvement in combustion efficiency.
Newly designed YPVS
To complement the head and cylinder changes, a newly designed YPVS is featured. The maximum lift on the new exhaust power valve has been revised, and the timing of its opening and closing are also modified in order to improve engine performance and also enhance driveability.
New Keihin carburettor and V-Force reed valve
A major feature on the new engine is the use of a Keihin PWK 38.1mm carburettor equipped with a solenoid controlled power jet that gives an instant hit of power when required. The new carburettor features a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) as well as a 3D map controlled CDI that ensures optimised ignition timing. Together with a new V-Force reed valve assembly and a revised manifold design, this new intake and carburettor gives the YZ125 rider stronger acceleration for out of the gate, and more explosive power when exiting corners.
Longer con rod and heavier crank
Other internal changes that contribute towards the new engine’s increased output include a longer con rod as well as a slightly heavier crank. This results in increased inertia that optimises the engine’s behaviour, and the revised crank balance is designed to match the new engine’s increased power output.
New high-efficiency air intake system
A key feature on the new YZ125 is its completely redesigned air intake system. By redesigning the rear frame as well as both sidepanels and reshaping the seat base, Yamaha’s engineers have reduced the resistance to incoming air by 15% and succeeded in dramatically increasing overall intake efficiency on the new model. This not only contributes significantly towards improving the mid to high rpm pulling power and improving the over-rev character, it also sharpens the low to mid rpm throttle response for more stable running at lower revs.
New exhaust pipe and shorter silencer
The dimensions and shape of the exhaust have been changed for 2022 to match the other changes to the engine for optimised power and useability. The expansion pipe’s diameter is slightly reduced at its widest point, and the silencer is 50mm shorter.
Stronger and smoother shifting transmission
The YZ125’s 6-speed transmission has been strengthened for 2022 in order to handle the increase in maximum power. Secondary reduction ratio is slightly increased with the use of a 13/49 front/rear sprocket set – previously 13/48 – and for improved driveability 5th and 6th gears run with a slightly reduced ratio. A new shift shaft and redesigned return spring give a much smoother shift feel, and to handle the increased engine power the new YZ125 features uprated clutch springs.
Athletic and more compact body
The 2022 YZ125 is equipped with slimmer tank, new seat and revised graphics that give the bike a radical, modern and athletic look to complement its increased engine performance – as well as enabling the rider to achieve an even higher degree of chassis control.
Flatter seat
For improved rider ability, freer movement and easier body weight shifting the seat’s upper surface has been flattened by lowering the front by 6mm and raising the rear by 5mm, while the new fuel tank blends seamlessly with the front of the seat – and for easier maintenance there’s also a new single-bolt seat fixing.
Slimmer tank and radiator shrouds
The YZ125 is already one of the lightest and most agile dirt bikes in its class, and the new model is even slimmer thanks to the use of a new fuel tank and narrow radiator shrouds that make this the most compact YZ125 ever. Width between the rider’s knees is reduced by nearly 36mm to give a real feeling of slimness and agility for improved ergonomics and rider mobility.
Newly designed fenders and sidepanels
To achieve the new high-efficiency air intake system the sidepanels, rear fender and underside of the new seat have been redesigned, so as to give an unrestricted flow of air into the airbox. The shape of the front fender has also been revised to give a more aerodynamic and dynamic look.
Newly designed rear frame
The YZ125’s is equipped with a performant, high-specification and lightweight aluminium semi- double cradle frame. And for 2022 the detachable rear frame features a new mounting point for the shorter silencer, while a newly designed raised cross member allows for improved intake efficiency by giving a clear route for incoming air. This new cross member also accommodates the new single bolt seat mounting point for easier maintenance.
Revised suspension settings
The YZ125’s KYB front and rear suspension systems are regarded as being amongst the best in class, incorporating a leaf-spring in the valve design that gives excellent damping at mid speeds. For 2022 these high-specification suspension systems are further refined, and both the front forks and rear shock feature revised low speed damping characteristics for enhanced chassis performance.
More powerful front brake and lighter rear brake
For increased braking power together with more precise feel the new model is equipped with a new more rigid twin-pot caliper and redesigned 270mm diameter disc. Featuring larger diameter 25.4mm pistons together with new pads that give a 30% increase in contact area with the disc, this new more powerful front braking system enables riders to reduce lap times by braking harder and later.
New generation colours and graphics
The new YZ125 adopts the latest Icon Blue colours consisting of a duo-tone finish that blends Yamaha’s famous Icon Blue with a dark matte blue. The all-new body and new in-mould graphics accentuate the dynamic and athletic stance of this new generation 125cc model, and clearly demonstrate Yamaha’s commitment to delivering the most competitive and attractive package to tomorrow’s champions.

New YZ250: 2 Strokes. First place.
Few other motocross bikes can come close to matching the Yamaha YZ250 2-stroke in terms of its history, enduring world-wide popularity and its enviable track record. It was the original YZ250 that gave Yamaha its first ever World Championship with Håkan Andersson back in 1973 – the first of many 250cc FIM World Championship and AMA Supercross titles to be claimed by this iconic motocross bike over the next few decades by some of the sport’s greatest riders.
And today this remarkable race bike’s reputation and popularity are as strong as ever with those riders who appreciate its light weight, mechanical simplicity, great looks and winning performance. It’s fair to say that the YZ250 is a true legend in the off-road world – how many other motocross bikes have dedicated Facebook pages with thousands of followers!
For 2022 the evolution of this highly successful motocross bike continues, and the new YZ250 comes with all-new super slim bodywork that sharpens up its profile to make it one of the most dynamic looking bikes on the track. But the new model is much more than simply a cosmetic restyle, and its new enhanced chassis specification includes more powerful braking, revised suspension, new lightweight components and a high-efficiency intake system.
Super-slim body with strong horizontal line
The YZ250 is equipped with all-new super slim bodywork that is similar to the design used on the all-new YZ125, and features a strong horizontal line that gives the bike an aggressive and purposeful look. The new tank and radiator shrouds give much narrower dimensions between the rider’s knees for enhanced rider mobility when weight shifting and cornering – and the compact body also creates a feeling of lightness and agility that reinforce the athletic character of the new model.
Flatter seat
As well as the narrower body width, the 2022 YZ250 features a newly designed seat that has a flatter upper surface that improves the bike’s ergonomics and makes front/rear weight shifting easier and quicker.
New rear fender and sidepanels give enhanced air intake efficiency
The front fenders features a sharper and more dynamic look, and the sidepanels and rear fender have been redesigned to enhance air intake efficiency. This is done by incorporating larger rear vents in the sidepanels, as well as designing the underside of the seat and the shape of the top of the rear fender so that they do not impede air flow. The resulting increase in overall intake efficiency contributes towards improved performance at higher engine speeds. And to match the new air intake the YZ250 is fitted with a new exhaust featuring a revised shape and modified dimensions.
Lighter and more powerful brakes
The new YZ250 features a powerful new braking system that delivers increased performance and feel while at the same time reducing weight. The newly designed 270mm front disc is the same diameter as previously, but by fitting a new more rigid caliper with larger diameter 25.4mm pistons, the new front brake has a 30% larger pad area. This combination of higher caliper rigidity together with a much larger pad area gives outstanding braking power as well as accurate feel for precision one-finger braking.
The rear brake has also been improved with the fitment of a slightly smaller diameter 240mm disc – down by 5mm – as well as a newly designed caliper that gives the same pad area and braking performance as the previous model, while saving almost 100g in weight.
Revised suspension settings
The YZ250’s 48mm high-specification KYB SSS front forks and KYB link-type Monocross rear suspension set the industry benchmark, and for 2022 the factory settings have been revised to give even better low speed damping characteristics.
Weight saving components
Further small but nevertheless important weight reductions have been achieved by the use of a newly designed clutch lever and rear sprocket.
New colours and graphics
The 2022 YZ250 is finished in a dynamic and high quality Icon Blue duo-tone finish with durable in-mould graphics that are designed to withstand harsh motocross riding conditions.

YZ85: Victory. Never given, always earned.
Many of today’s motocross legends started out on the Yamaha YZ85. Light, nimble, fast and reliable, this is a high-specification scaled down version of Yamaha’s larger capacity race bikes. Featuring much of the same advanced engine and chassis technology as the YZ125 and YZ250, the new 2022 YZ85 is the very best start that any racer can get on the long and exciting journey towards a career as a professional racer.
With compact new bodywork as well as a flatter seat and range of chassis revisions, many of the changes on the new YZ85 mirror those seen on the all-new YZ125 – and like its larger sibling, the new YZ85 is designed to deliver a stronger, better and more athletic package for riders aiming for the victorYZone.
Dynamic new styling
The new 2022 styling bears a close resemblance to the larger capacity YZ models, and the compact new bodywork features a strong horizontal theme that together with the flat seat and restyled sidepanels gives this youth race bike a confident and aggressive stance.
The new duo-tone colour scheme features contrasting areas of Icon Blue and dark matte blue – and the new in-mould graphics are designed to withstand many motos in tough conditions, helping to keep this high-tech race bike looking good throughout the season.
Slim new bodywork
For 2022 the YZ85 is equipped with slimmer bodywork that gives the rider greater freedom of body movement for a higher degree of control when accelerating, braking and cornering. The redesigned radiator shrouds are 25mm narrower at their widest point, and now feature a uniform left-right configuration that adds to the balanced feel of the bike from the rider’s viewpoint.
There’s also a newly designed front fender with an upper that’s designed to help direct airflow into the YZ85’s radiator for effective cooling and consistently strong engine performance. The dynamic design also complements the compact new bodywork and reinforces the bike’s YZ family DNA it has inherited from the YZ125.
Flatter seat and redesigned fuel tank
And like the YZ125, the new YZ85 is equipped with a flatter seat that enables the rider to shift their body weight more easily. The ergonomics are further improved by the new 5-litre fuel tank with a redesigned fuel cap that gives greater freedom of body movement towards the front of the bike. The seat also adopts a new single bolt fixing, making routine maintenance easier and quicker.
Rear position high-efficiency air intake
Newly designed sidepanels on the YZ85 perform two important roles: Firstly, their smooth and close fitting design promotes rider manoeuvrability for rapid front/rear weight shifting. And secondly they feature new rear vents that give a straighter flow of air into the engine’s airbox, thereby giving greater intake efficiency for improved engine performance.
More linear rear brake performance
For a more linear rear braking character the YZ85 is equipped with a new master cylinder with a built-in sub-reservoir. This new more efficient design replaces the previous model’s separate reservoir and connecting hose to give a more natural and linear brake feel with more precise feedback.
Lightweight aluminium rear frame and new swingarm
For 2022 the chassis on the new YZ85 is equipped with a new lightweight aluminium rear frame that is 570gr lighter than the steel unit used on the previous model, a significant reduction in weight that also contributes towards the bike’s mass centralisation.
Also new is a redesigned swingarm that features a revised balance between its longitudinal rigidity and torsional rigidity. This subtle but significant change improves chassis stability and allows the rider to transmit power to the ground more effectively.

All-new WR450F: Increased power, sharper handling and stronger braking
Lighter, more powerful and compact new 450cc engine
The current WR450F engine is already renowned for its wide band of enormous power and outstanding torque that deliver impressive performance in a wide variety of riding conditions.
In order to be able to achieve even stronger and more controllable power across the rev range, Yamaha's engineers have developed the all-new WR450F powerplant, based on the latest high performance YZ450F motocross engine, that is significantly lighter and more compact. Yamaha have made a number of key technical adjustments to suit the different requirements of the enduro rider, including model-specific intake and exhaust systems, as well as optimised fuel injection and ignition maps for the ECU that help to deliver more useable and controllable power together with strong topend performance.
New cylinder head and piston design
The 2021 WR450F engine features a new lighter cylinder head and new piston design that gives an increased compression ratio – up from 12.8:1 on the 2020 WR450F to 13.0:1 on the new model. With its long and straight front-facing inlet, the WR450F's reverse cylinder head offers outstanding efficiency, and for 2021 the intake port shape is revised and the intake and exhaust valve angles are changed from 21.5 degrees to 14.5 degrees to create a more concave combustion chamber for enhanced combustion efficiency and stronger power across the rpm range.
The new cylinder head is equipped with a large number of magnesium components that contribute towards a 310g weight saving, and features relocated camshafts that are positioned closer to each other – while the vertical distance between the camshafts and the crankshaft is also reduced to give a much more compact layout. The combination of lower weight and reduced dimensions achieves enhanced mass centralisation, and this contributes significantly towards the new model's lighter feeling and increased agility when cornering – making the 2021 WR450F one of the easiest-handling large-capacity enduro models.
Yamaha Power Tuner for easy smartphone tuning
In 2019 the WR450F pioneered the use of advanced digital technology when it became the first enduro bike to feature onboard connectivity that enabled remote wireless tuning via a smartphone. The all new2021 model continues to lead the field with its Yamaha Power Tuner that enables riders and mechanics to quickly and easily adjust the fuel/air mix and ignition timing mapping so that the bike can be set up to suit different circuit and weather conditions.
After downloading the free Power Tuner app for IOS or Android devices it's possible to fine tune the bike's engine character via a smartphone, enabling WR450F owners to achieve optimal performance to suit fast MX tests as well as tricky technical terrain. Riders can also access and record a range of data, including system diagnosis, engine run time and more, making the Power Tuner an indispensable part of any toolkit!

New YZ250F aiming for the podium
In the company’s 65th anniversary year the commitment to winning is as strong as it ever has been, with Yamaha riders powering to remarkable results across the world. 2020 got off to an outstanding start, with Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing rider Dylan Ferrandis defending his crown and scoringa back-to-back 250SX West Coast Championship title on his YZ250F a cross the Atlantic. And Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 rider Jago Geerts winning his first Grand Prix at the opening round of the FIM MX2 World Championship series.
The philosophy that racing should play a key role in the company’s operations started back in July 1955 when Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd was founded. Yamaha won its first race first time out, and on this day the company’s future direction was chosen. And still today, at every level within Yamaha, racing is deeply embedded within the company’s DNA – and the 2021 motocross range demonstrates that Yamaha continues to do whatever it takes to give every competitor the very real opportunity to fulfil their genuine potential.
With the strong range of high-performance 4-stroke and 2-stroke race bikes – as well as some of the world’s favourite kids’ dirt bikes – Yamaha is ready to welcome everybody to the victorYZone.
New YZ250F: Tune. Race. Win.
The YZ250F has already made a big name for itself as one of the most competitive 250 4-strokes out there. At every level this outstanding motocross bike has proved that it has what it takes to win in all conditions, in MX and SX. For the 2021 model year Yamaha is aiming even higher with the launch of the new YZ250F – equipped with thoroughly refined engine, revised frame, new suspension settings, new brakes and advanced digital technologies in this ultra-competitive class.
Completely redesigned engine
Every major component has been redesigned and improved in order to give Yamaha riders a genuine advantage on the racetrack. With its industry-leading reverse cylinder head design that delivers enhanced intake efficiency and improved mass centralisation, the 250cc 4-valve powerplant is already in a class of its own.
For the 2021 model year Yamaha’s engineers have analysed each and every key component and made a large number of significant changes that are designed to give a wider band of stronger and smoother race-winning performance – as well as an enhanced transmission for slicker shifting.
New exhaust camshaft profile
The 2021 engine’s power feeling from the mid rpm range through to over-rev performance has been refined and improved by the use of a new exhaust camshaft with a revised profile that reduces valve overlap. Together with optimised fuel injection settings, this new camshaft improves the YZ250F’s engine character above mid rpm, giving a higher level of performance together with greater controllability.
All-new high-efficiency intake system
The YZ250F’s front-facing inlet is a key feature that gives this lightweight 4-stroke a very real advantage. As well as ensuring the delivery of cool and fresh air directly into the engine for increased combustion efficiency and instant throttle response, it also facilitates the use of a unique rearwards-inclined cylinder that achieves excellent mass centralisation which contributes towards the bike’s easy agility and lightweight handling.
The intake system on the 2021 model is all new, and the redesigned airbox does away with the intake funnel and has been shortened by 20mm to give a smoother and more direct route for the incoming air. Another key change is the use of a new air cleaner box cover mounted at the front of the seat. Featuring new ducts, the 2021 cover increases the volume of intake air to deliver even stronger performance at high rpm.
New high-performance muffler
To complement the increased high rpm performance of the 2021 engine, a new muffler with an increased capacity is fitted. Just 70mm longer than the previous design, the new system is constructed to give smoother acceleration especially at high rpm, and delivers a deep and subdued exhaust note that emphasises the torque-rich nature of this 250cc 4-stroke engine.
Stronger clutch housing and smooth-shifting transmission
To complement the new engine’s increased performance the clutch housing has been redesigned. The clutch basket features thicker walls that are significantly stronger, giving increased durability and consistently strong performance throughout the race.
3rd, 4th and 5th gears on both the input and output shafts have been redesigned to give improved transmission performance, and selected gears are shot peened to give greater strength to match theincreased engine performance.
Refined bilateral beam frame takes handling to a new level
The YZ250F is already renowned for its super-agile and lightweight handling – and ongoing evaluation and testing have enabled Yamaha’s designers to refine the frame structure and take chassis performance to the next level.
The 2021 YZ250F is equipped with a new aluminium bilateral beam frame that – while outwardly similar to the previous design – features a number of significant changes that match the increased performance of the 2021 engine and make a tangible improvement to handling feel and performance. By fine-tuning the frame’s rigidity levels at key locations, Yamaha’s designers have been able to create a chassis that achieves lightweight handling together with a precise and confident feel. Other chassis components such as the top triple clamp, handlebar mounts, and front axle were also redesigned to complement the new frame – all contributing to the 2021 model’s increased competitiveness.
Revised front and rear suspension settings give greater control
Yamaha’s motocross models are widely regarded as having one of the best suspension packages in the industry. At the front end the KYB® inverted coil spring-type forks feature speed sensitive damping to give outstanding handling performance, while at the rear end the KYB® shock and link-type Monocross system work together to deliver optimum control together with high levels of rear wheel traction.
To ensure it maintains its position as one of the very best motocross suspension systems ‘straight from the factory’, the 2021 package is further refined. The settings on the KYB® front forks are revised to give more progressive damping throughout the entire stroke, and this gives the rider a stronger feeling of contact with the track surface while also delivering better bump absorption that helps conserve rider energy. At the rear the KYB® shock runs with revised settings that give a more stable ride with a reduced tendency to pitch.
These important suspension improvements – combined with the refined rigidity balance of the bilateral beam frame – elevate the 2021 YZ250F’s handling qualities to an even higher level. As well as being lighter handling, the new model gives a more precise feeling that enables the rider to hold their chosen line for faster cornering. Front wheel and rear wheel traction is also improved by these chassis changes, giving greater levels of machine control for a real advantage over the opposition.
Lighter and more powerful braking system
Braking performance is increased and braking system weight is reduced for 2021. The redesigned front caliper is 30% more rigid than previously and uses larger diameter pistons and newly designed brake pads – while a new 270mm front disc achieves a 16% increase in pad contact surface area without any increase in weight. The rear brake caliper design is also new, and together with a new 240mm rear disc this system maintains the same level of braking power while weighing 120g less.
Delivering improved braking performance and better feeling, the new braking system makes an important contribution to the 2021 YZ250F’s increased competitiveness and enhanced ride quality.
Revised handlebar position
In order to achieve the optimal riding position for enhanced controllability, the handlebars on the 2021 YZ250F are mounted further forward, enabling the rider to load the front end and shift their bodyweight over the front wheel as and when required.
New handlebar clamps are mounted to a new lighter top triple clamp, and both units feature a revised rigidity balance for reduced stress on the rider’s arms. The new chromoly steel footrests are also lighter, as is the new front axle shaft, enabling the Yamaha YZ250F to weigh in at just 106kg with a full 6.2 litre fuel tank and 0.95 litres of engine oil – just 3kg more than the YZ250 2-stroke.
Dynamic new Icon Blue bodywork with coordinated number plates
Yamaha Power Tuner
The industry-leading Power Tuner is an easy to use digital technology that enables YZ250F – as well asYZ450F – riders to fine-tune the bike’s engine power character at the trackside using their smartphone. Riders and mechanics can simply download the free Power Tuner App for IOS or Android devices, and then instantly connect with the YZ250F to make adjustments to fuel injection and ignition timing via the bike’s CCU. In the Power Tuner app riders can create their own settings, and using the handlebar mounted button they can switch between two of the maps.
Besides being able to make changes to the engine’s performance, the Power Tuner can also be used to record race log information and monitor a range of data, including system diagnostics, run time and maintenance – as well as comparing and sharing race logs and settings with fellow riders.
